Tonia Antoniazzi, Member of Parliament for Gower is encouraging local groups in Swansea to apply for Armed Forces Day event grants that honour local serving personnel, veterans, and their families.
Each year, hundreds of local authorities, schools, sports clubs, voluntary organisations and charities host events that bring communities together in support of the Armed Forces. Armed Forces Day activities can include community picnics or barbecues, musical performances, parades, stalls run by local military units and veterans’ charities, hands‑on experiences, and talks by inspiring service personnel. The UK Labour Government announced up to £500,000 of funding to support Armed Forces Day celebrations across the country this summer. Applications for funding close on 30th March 2026. This funding forms part of the Labour Government’s commitment to renewing the nation’s covenant with those who serve. Labour is delivering on that promise with a record £9 billion investment in the renewal and repair of forces’ housing, the biggest pay rise in two decades, extending the Armed Forces Covenant to deliver better public services, and a landmark Veterans’ Strategy. Tonia Antoniazzi MP said “Swansea proudly backs our Armed Forces community. I’m delighted that this Labour Government is funding these vital community events, and I look forward to celebrating alongside our service personnel in June. If you’re holding an event for Armed Forces Day, please apply for a grant before the deadline at the end of March. My team and I will be able to help you co-ordinate a bid so please get in touch.” Labour’s Defence Secretary, John Healey MP, added “Our Armed Forces make extraordinary sacrifices to keep us safe — but they cannot do what they do without the support of their families, friends and communities across the country. “In June, we look forward to coming together as a proud nation to celebrate Armed Forces Day, and I want this funding to help make this year the best yet. “If you back our Forces and want to thank them with a celebration in your community, apply for a grant and register your event with us so we can help you spread the word.” Comments are closed.
