• 500 service personnel in Wales will benefit from Labour’s Christmas travel support
• Thousands of journeys home funded by the Labour Government to help reunite families
• Delivering on Labour’s promise to renew the nation’s contract with those who serve

This Christmas, thousands of Armed Forces personnel will be able to claim for a return journey home to spend time with loved ones, thanks to the UK Labour Government support.

While many in the Armed Forces already qualify for travel support, around 35,000 personnel currently do not. However, the UK Labour Government has expended eligibility for help with the cost to cover road or rail travel this Christmas, ensuring those on duty during the holidays can still access help when they need it.

A further 5,000 separated parents will also receive travel credit, helping them reunite with their children over Christmas.

Tonia Antoniazzi, Member of Parliament for Gower has welcomed the announcement, which will benefit 500 service personnel here in Wales. Around 30,000 junior personnel in years 2–5 of their military careers, many of whom are posted far from home early in service,  will receive funded travel to see family this festive season.

Tonia Antoniazzi MP said, “I know the extraordinary commitment our Armed Forces show, and I’m proud that this Government is doing more to help them get home to Gower so they can enjoy more time with their loved ones this Christmas."

"Labour promised to renew the nation’s contract with those who serve and we are delivering on that promise.”

Defence Secretary John Healey MP added "Our Armed Forces make extraordinary sacrifices to keep our country safe. Helping them get home to their families for Christmas is the least we can do.

In this new era of threat, the strength of our defence lies in the serving men and women of our forces. Having already awarded the biggest military pay rise in 20 years and launched a major strategy to renew military housing, this Government is proudly putting our Forces First."
