Tonia Antoniazzi MP praises Gower farmers at National Farmers’ Union reception
Newly-elected MP for Gower Tonia Antoniazzi has praised the role of farmers in Gower community life at the National Farmers’ Union reception in Parliament. The reception, held on the House of Commons Terrace, was for Parliamentarians to learn more about the work that the National Farmers’ Union does. Tonia highlighted the pivotal role that farmers play across Wales, but particularly in her Gower constituency. “We hope to continue to work closely with Tonia”. Ms Antoniazzi said "Farming plays a pivotal role in everyone's lives across the UK, but nowhere is this more true than in Gower. Not only does farming play a huge role in our local economy, but also in its contribution to our community. Local farms hold events such as hands-on open days for schools that are invaluable experiences for schoolchildren. That's why I back Welsh farming". NFU Cymru Deputy President, John Davies said: “We are very grateful to Tonia Antoniazzi who attended our MP Summer Reception at the House of Commons. The event was a great opportunity to meet Parliamentarians from all parties and to share our ambitions for the future of Welsh agriculture. “Welsh farming is the cornerstone of the food and drink sector worth £6.1 billion, it employs 58,300 people and provides the backdrop to the £2.8 billion Welsh tourism industry. Therefore it’s vital that the industry is recognised by Government for the massive contribution it makes to the well-being of Wales. “Farming is arguably the industry which will be most affected by Brexit, therefore having an opportunity to meet with key decision makers, as Brexit negotiations get underway, was a huge benefit to us. We hope to continue to work closely with Tonia and all MPs to ensure we get the right deal for Welsh farmers post-Brexit.”
