Tonia Antoniazzi to Join Swansea Bay 10K Race, Raising Funds for Maggie's Swansea
Tonia Antoniazzi MP, Member of Parliament for Gower, is set to lace up her running shoes to participate in this weekend’s upcoming Swansea Bay 10K race. The annual event which is taking place this Sunday 17th September will see approximately 4000 participants racing from Swansea Cenotaph, along the seafront to Mumbles and back. Tonia Antoniazzi will be entering the race to raise awareness and funds for Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Swansea. Maggie's Swansea is a charitable organization dedicated to providing practical, emotional, and social support to individuals and families affected by cancer. Speaking before the race, Tonia said “"In my capacity as Chair of the APPG for Cancer, I've had the privilege of engaging with patients and their families, both through virtual connections and face-to-face encounters. My role has extended to actively participating in parliamentary debates, and advocating persistently to UK and Welsh Government ministers for the enhancement of diagnostic capabilities and the resolution of workforce challenges post coronavirus. "The significance of cancer hit even closer to home this year with my mums diagnosis and the unfortunate loss of a beloved and highly respected member of the Labour Party, our dear friend Jean Williams from Mumbles. My last encounter with Jean, during our Macmillan Coffee Morning last year, was a heartfelt conversation about politics and the incredible care and support we both had the privilege of witnessing through Macmillan and Maggie's. This, coupled with the success of raising over £1000 during the Gower Mighty Hike in July, inspired my decision to take on the challenge of the Admiral Swansea Bay 10K. "While I may not be the fastest participant on the course, I am delighted to be joined in this endeavour by Ruth Jones MP for Newport West, who shares my commitment to raising funds for St David’s Hospice. "Participating in this event is a heartfelt 'thank you' to those who tirelessly provide care and support in the face of one of life's most significant challenges. I also want to extend my thanks to everyone who has supported me and donated to this worthy cause.
